Does your lack of it impede progress?
Are there places in the world you would like to visit? Training courses that you would like to complete? Is there a car that you dream of owning? Do you want to give money to charity but don’t feel you earn enough? Are you deep in debt? Do you have a huge mortgage? Do you live from paycheck to paycheck?

It seems like mismanagement of personal finances is like a cancer.
But don’t worry.
There are people who have the cure.
People like Marie-Claire Carlyle.
“We have the chance to be masters of our own lives.” – Marie-Claire Carlyle
At its peak, my credit card debt reached £30,000. I had no idea how I was going to reduce it. The paycheck would land in the bank and I would immediately be in the red.
My plan was to continue to work as hard as I possibly could. When I reached 55-years of age, I would retire, and use my pension to pay off my debt.
Think about that.
My life had become nothing more than an inconvenience. It was standing in the way of my debt problem. Not only was I wishing my life away, I wasn’t thinking of a different solution.
I was also drinking far too much alcohol.
The alcohol muddied the mind.
I was a mess.
So I drank more alcohol.
“When we play the victim we surrender our power.” – Marie-Claire Carlyle.
I have played the victim my whole life. The pattern is so ingrained it has become my modus operandi. I have to work very hard at changing this way of thinking.
Surrendering your power is the same as giving up.
In financial terms this means you act like an Ostrich. You are hoping that you win the lottery, or a rich relative will die and leave you an influx of cash.
There is no other way.
The foundation of this book is built on the Law of Attraction. If you cannot open your mind to the possibility that your thoughts shape your future, then you are going to have a difficult time with this book.
Open your mind.
When I was reading the book I decided to start a daily ritual. I have a small stone with the word ‘dream’ engraved into it, and I would hold it in my hand whilst I meditated.
Prior to the actual meditation I would allow the energy of the universe to enter my being and then I would start visualising my future. At the same time I would also ask for certain rights to be mine.
“I am a money magnet.”
“Money flows to me every single day.”
“I do not have to work hard to attract money.”
“I love money and money loves me.”
Whilst reading the book I received £300 in cash, in the post, from an unpaid debt I thought I would never see, I was given a free weekend in Paris, I won £25 on the lottery, and I received a pay increase from my most prominent client.
I continue to attract money to this day.
Is this magic?
“Align your thoughts with attracting more money and you will attract more money. Focus on how little money you have and you will attract even less.” – Marie-Claire Carlyle.
I don’t know how it works. I only know that it works. It takes no greater effort to think about negative thoughts, as it does to think about positive ones.
Change your way of thinking.
In typical Ebenezer Scrooge type style, Marie-Claire Carlyle takes you by the hand and shows you a glimpse of your past.
I saw my dad telling me that money didn’t grow on trees. I heard my mum telling me that I couldn’t have what I wanted because we couldn’t afford it. I believed we were poor.
“More than 80% of our thoughts are unconscious, and so we may be creating, unconsciously, a reality that we don’t consciously like.” – Marie-Claire Carlyle.
I started to believe that I was a money magnet. Suddenly, whenever I needed an injection of cash it turned up. I started to meticulously record every penny that I spent. I challenged ways of doing things better. I attacked my debt load. Slowly, but surely it started to come down.
Here is a great example.
My car lease costs used to be £300 per month. In addition to that I was also paying car insurance, tax, fuel and general upkeep and maintenance.
When I got divorced I lost the car, and had a chance to do something different. I started using a firm called City Club Cars. It’s an ‘on the spot’ car rental service where you don’t pay for fuel, car insurance, or general repairs. Instead, you pay an annual fee, an hourly rental rate, and a mileage charge.
I saved a lot of money.
Last month my fees for City Car Club were £350.
It was too high.
I set about asking the universe for a solution.
Then a few days later during a conversation with my mum she asked me why I didn’t use my dad’s car? He was working away all of the time, and the car was not being used. I now pay £70 per year for insurance, I will pay for the petrol I use, and also help him out with repairs.
There is no limit to this.
You need to believe anything is possible. Send your requests out into the world and get ready to receive.
“Letting go of any belief that you are not good enough is the gateway to the life of your dreams” Marie-Claire Carlyle
You also need to have belief in you.
This was another problem for me. In many areas of my life I am a very confident person. However, when it came to money, there was a real block in my way of thinking. I did not believe I had the capacity to reach the big time. There was a ceiling that limited my ability to be a stronger money magnet.
I earned £45,000 when I worked in the rail industry. When I quit to become a writer I earned £45,000. No more – no less. This year, with an expansive way of thinking I reached £68,000. That number will continue to rise.
I believe it’s possible.
“We can only attract what we believe we are worth.” Marie-Claire Carlyle
I am debt free.
I have an emergency fund with six months worth of savings. I save 20% of my gross earnings for investing, I save 2% of my gross earnings for charity, I work to a monthly budget, and every morning I visualise my future income.
I believe I am worth every penny.
The more money I earn, the better this world will be because I am going to give it all back.
That’s why the universe will ensure I get every penny I want.
“Money is worthless in itself.” – Marie Claire Carlyle
Pieces of paper and chunks of metal.
I have spent many years, working my ass off, to earn money.
That’s not what life is about.
The book covers, in great detail, the importance of having a vision of the future, and how to turn it into a reality. Carlyle combines her wonderful skills in money affirmations; personal finances and Feng Shui wealth, with some good old fashion work around goal setting and taking action.
There are little questionnaires, and action plans at the end of each chapter. I devour books and there were several of these actions that now bear the inked scrawl.
‘MUST DO THIS, IT’S BRILLIANT.’
“Your brain chooses the option with the less resistance.” Marie Claire Carlyle
This is the biggest problem you will face.
It’s the reason I was waiting for my pension to mature to pay off my debt. It’s the reason we reach for the bottle instead of pouring it down the drain. It’s the reason we spend, instead of save.
There is a definitive link between debt and alcoholism. It exists. The stress and pressure that debt places onto a soul is tremendous, and for many people the only way to relieve the pressure is to have another drink.
There is another way.
